In a recent interview, the 25-year-old cricketer acknowledged the role of poor decisions, distractions, and shifting priorities in his decline, both on and off the field.

"There are a lot of things... I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life. I started giving less time to cricket," Shaw confessed to News24. He elaborated on a decline in practice hours, stating, "I used to practice a lot... I used to bat for 3-4 hours in nets. I never got tired of batting... I admit that there was a distraction."

He further explained how external influences affected his dedication: "I made some wrong friends... Then they took me here and there... Then I got away from the track. I used to give 8 hours of practice on the ground. Now it is 4 hours."

Shaw's career began brightly in 2018 with a century on his Test debut against the West Indies, leading to comparisons with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. However, issues with discipline and fitness led to him falling out of favor.

From being dropped by Mumbai due to fitness concerns to going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, his downfall was both rapid and highly visible.

Now, Shaw is focused on a fresh start. He has officially left the Mumbai Cricket Association and will be playing professionally for Maharashtra. In a letter to the MCA, he expressed his appreciation for their support but emphasized the necessity of this move for his personal and professional development.

While he has had brief periods of resurgence, including a stint in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, maintaining consistent performance has proven challenging.
