Phil Simmons, the head coach of Bangladesh, has departed from the ongoing tour of Sri Lanka to seek medical attention in London. This development follows speculation that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president, Aminul Islam, had summoned Simmons for a review of the coaching staff's performance. However, sources confirm that Simmons' trip was scheduled in advance for a pre-arranged appointment with doctors in the UK.
The former West Indian opener is expected to rejoin the squad in Sri Lanka on July 7, in time for the third One Day International (ODI) of the series. Following the ODI series, Bangladesh is scheduled to play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
The Bangladeshi team has struggled to maintain consistency on the tour. After a strong showing in the first Test, which ended in a draw, they lost the second Test, losing the series. The team then experienced a collapse in the first ODI, resulting in a loss.
