MI New York had earlier set a formidable target of 237/4, thanks to a blistering century from captain Nicholas Pooran, who remained unbeaten on 108 from just 60 balls. He was well-supported by Tajinder Dhillon, who smashed a quick-fire 95 off 35 deliveries.
Despite the onslaught, Gerald Coetzee and Kyle Mayers each managed to grab two wickets for the Orcas, providing some control amidst the high-scoring affair.
Seattle's chase began shakily, with Josh Brown and Shayan Jahangir falling early in the innings. However, Kyle Mayers (37 off 20) and captain Sikandar Raza (30 off 9) launched a counter-attack, injecting momentum into the chase. Heinrich Klaasen contributed a rapid 26 off 13 balls before being dismissed by Rushil Ugarkar.
Hetmyer then took center stage.
Needing five runs off the final ball, Hetmyer faced MI New York's captain, Kieron Pollard. With nerves of steel, Hetmyer dispatched the ball over fine leg for a six, sealing a memorable victory for the Orcas. His unbeaten 97 came off just 40 balls, including 5 fours and 9 sixes, demonstrating an incredible strike rate of 242.50. This remarkable innings marked the highest successful run chase in MLC history.
"This one is one of the best, because our backs were against the wall," said Hetmyer, the Player of the Match, after his spectacular performance. "Today is one of those days, where I went with a clear mind and wanted to take the game as deep as possible."
